Even though it was 27 years ago I still remember the tears in the doctor's eyes when he told us our baby son died. He'd told us that our baby had a 96% chance of making a full recovery from the heart surgery he needed. What he hadn't anticipated was that his little heart couldn't withstand the stress of one of the incisions they had to make. It was so hard for him when our son started going into kidney failure the morning after the surgery. It was even worse when this baby he really thought would make it didn't. I can't imagine how hard it was for him to have to tell us things hadn't gone as they'd believed they would, and that our first child was dead.

They all did an amazing job of putting their own feelings on hold while they supported us through our grief, but I still saw and remember their tears.

The turnover of nurses at the NICU (neo-natal intensive care unit) was very high. They said it was so hard to watch babies die all the time. Thankfully they are able to do so much more to save them now. It's still very hard on these people who have made healing their life's work to lose patients, however much they may try to shield themselves from it. They are only human.

They would feel bad of course, but mistakes happen, and not every patient is 'saveable'. They are often comforted by the knowledge that their work saves countless other lives. They offer real hope to those suffering from serious illnesses. Have you thanked a doctor lately?

They probably feel really bad. Can you answer this question for me... nobody else saw it or tryed to answer it...

okay, im not a doctor but i am in the medical field..i am an emergency medical technician..I will be honest....for us usualy if we run a cardiac arrest with an older adult it doesnt bother most of us that bad..just because we know we did what we could..but last night we ran a 13yr old kid in cardiac arrest that we tried our best to save and couldnt...Me and my partner both cried after the call.......it a lot of the times really depends on if it is a child vs an adult..for us anyway.

disgusted... who wants to open people and all that?
