Chronically low body temperature, problem?!

Question: can this cause balance and cognitive problems?

I have my thyroid tested at every single appointment I have, GP or some random specialist I'm sent to to attempt to figure out my problems.

it's always low, anywhere from 95-97.

every doctor appointment on my record has a recorded temp. of less than 98.

my doctors never say anything, but I know they're obviously concerned by it because of the repeated TSH tests.

I'm also wondering what else could cause this? is it simply because I am so thin (I'm marfan-ish)?

do I just gotta suck this up and deal with it or can something be done to help?

thanks, and merry christmas!

Hypothyroidism is by far the most common cause for chronic low body temperature. However other rare causes include adrenal insufficiency (but you also should be having other symptoms/abnormal lab tests) and hypothalamic dysfunction. You should definitely see an endocrinologist and also consider getting an MRI of the brain to look at your hypothalamus (has numerous functions, one of which is to regulate body temperature).

have you tried ginger? it increases circulation, and makes many people feel warmer.
ginger tea, capsules, grate fresh ginger into other food.

it gets me through the winter!

98 degrees is just an average.
Some people are below and some are above.
Have you asked the doctors why they keep testing you?

i also have a low body temperature... i am always cold...even when its hot... have u been checked for anemia....

Mine usually runs low too. Once I asked the nurse and she said that that she rarely sees them at 98.6, especially in the winter.

my body temp has always been 96ish and so has my mom's. If you've always had it, it shouldn't be a problem; our bodies do change as we get older so that may be it.

As for the thyroid tests, my mom has those too. She has hypothyroidism, used to have hyperthyroidism. She has to go have her blood taken every month or 2. 98.6 is just an average body temp, not a normal body temp.

to help with the being cold thing, find foods and activities to improve blood circulation, it will help keep you warm. People tend to get cold due to low circulation, this is why many elderly people are always cold.

since you've had it all your life, it's not a problem. don't worry, i've had a low body temp my entire life too and so has my mom, her thyroid tests always come back normal.

If you have "Marfans disease", your body temp will be lower. This endocrine disorder causes thermoregulatory differences.

My husbands Tests come back normal, & he has low body tempature.

You really should find a doctor, a specialist who deals with your condition, who is really willing and able to work with you and find out just why you are feeling the way you are and find a solution to help you feel better. There is no real communication between you & the doctors you have been dealing with and you must speak up, ask questions. It's your body and you're concerned.
