What are your wife's reasons for this strong urge to chop off part of your son's genitals?
Truth be told, especially at 1 year old, circumsizion is a traumatic surgery that removes an integral part of the penis. The foreskin is there for a purpose - to protect the helmet of the penis to keep it sensitive and moist. If you circumsize your son, that protection will be gone and his penis will be permanently exposed to air and rubbing against underwear. This leads to a degradation of sensation during intercourse.
Leave him be, and in a few years time you can show him how to take care of his body's personal hygiene, which will include washing under his foreskin. Its no big deal.

i think it should be left the way it is especially if you are uncircumcised.. the foreskin is a wonderful thing. as long as their are no problems that result from it as he gets older then i see no worries. make sure as he turns 5 or 6. that one of you teach him the proper way to clean his foreskin so no infections occur and he can properly clean himself there. he will probably thank you when he gets older because when he begins puberty and masturbates and then reaches adulthood and has sex because the foreskin will give him more pleasure than if he was curcumcized. however it is your guys decision and i am sure which ever you decide to make it will be the right one. good luck.

I think that at this age it would be pretty tramatic for his mother and father to drag him to the doctor where the doctor will unnecessarily chop off a part of his body, especially such a sensitive part. I think it would be torturous to do such a thing to him this late in his life. I didn't have my son circumsized and I have no regrets. I will never regret not putting my son through a completely needless surgery which can lead to infections. With him being a year old, undoubtedly he is probably crawling or even walking, and still wearing diapers. Imagine the amount of pain you would be subjecting him to if you decided to go through with it. I would say let him grow up and decide for himself if he wants to lose part of his penis.

Well, there are many benefits of circumsizion, some which include eleminating penis cancer, which is rare (1 in 1000) but still possible and gives you almost 100% chance of not getting it. A British Medical Journal article in May 2000 suggested that circumcised men are 8 times less likely to contract the HIV virus. Urinary tract infections sometimes occur in youngstes like yours and can be quite serious. Circumcision in infancy makes it 10 times less likely. There is absolutly no harm in doing so but there certainly are many benefits

to respond to PEACHY, the user's answer above, 1 years old is not that late in his life, the procedure is painfull only for a few hours after, and this minimal pain is certainly better then the other harms mentioned above. Many boys also may develope irritation and be too ashamed or emmbaresed to tell there parents later in life. This could easily be avoided by a simple circumcision. Its better to prevent a problem now then to cure it in the future

I think it would be better. It would be easier for a young one to keep clean and even adult, under the foreskin. Sometimes there are problems with it and I have read several lately. Besides they look better to me. Uncircumcised look like a turtle, where the neck skin come out over the head.====

I feel that if it isn't done immediately after birth it may be traumatic to him because he's already one. He will probably remember the pain afterwards. Unless the foreskin is causing him pain, preventing him from urinating or he gets chronic infections.....you should probably leave it alone......BUT......it's a personal decision between you and his mother. If you want additional input.....ask his pediatrician. Ask if there are more risks since he isn't an infant. Will he be uncomfotable for a long period of time afterward? What type of anesthesia is used?
