What's the best way to get rid of or control Hemmoroids?!

Question: Eat fresh fruits and vegetables (with the skin on preferably) and drink lots of water. Activity helps to prevent constipation which is the primary cause of hemorrhoids. The above dietary recommendations are also a means to controlling them. Also take some kind of fiber pills...like Fibercon or Metamucil.

I found sitting in a sink full of the hottest water you can stand a great way to soothe the hemorrhoids once you have them and they are giving you problems. You can try a tub for the hot water but you probably won't be able to tolerate that kind of heat as long on your whole body as you would sitting in a sink of hot water. And that way you can change the water as it cools. I usually sat about 20 minutes to get relief. Prep H didn't help me but others have said it does work.

Try not to strain or bear down when having a bowel movement. That puts more pressure on the hemorrhoids and causes them to pooch out and be painful.

I saw a commercial for Preparation H, so I guess you should do that.

Try over the counter meds first. If no relief, go see a general surgeon. They can either band them or surgically remove them. Be aware that both of those hurt like hell from what I'm told!

keep stool soft to keep them from flaring up. if they are swollen all the time and bleeding, you need to see a doctor

Hemorrhoids are usually caused by excessive strain when having a bowel movement. Initial treatment is usually increasing the fiber in your diet, often by adding in Metamucil or Citrucel or a similar supplement.

The additional fiber will reduce straining and allow the hemorrhoid to heal. This usually takes at least a couple weeks. Keep taking the fiber supplement if they tend to come back for you.

Topical ointments can be helpful as well, but only use an ointment that has phenylephrine in it. This is a decongestant that will cause blood vessels to constrict. Preparation H and other corticosteroid compounds will help, but if you're having chronic trouble regular use can cause the tissues to weaken, making hemorroids more likely to return.

If it is really intolerable, you can see a doctor to have them removed. It's a relatively simple procedure where the doctor puts a tiny rubber band around the inflammed tissue, cutting off its circulation. Over a few days the hemorrhoid tissue dies and sloughs off.

There are several over-the-counter preparations you can use if its not to severe. If they don't work, your doctor can prescribe something more effective.

Once you get rid of them, make sure to stay well hydrated and get plenty of fiber. That's the best way to keep the hemmoroids away...
