YES!!!!!!!

Since digestion begins in the mouth (via hydrochloric acid), the amount you chew your food affects your digestion. The more it is broken down the easier it is to absorb and not go to waste or worse, store as fat.

Best way to prevent "wolfing food down" is to:

1. chew your food 30 times before swallowing.
2. cut / bite smaller pieces so you dont have as much to break down.
3. put food / silverware down when food is actually in mouth.

no, but it does affect when you food travels down your esphogus but when it gets digested.. i think it's the same thing

I believe it does because I am in pretty much EXACTLY the same situation as you are. I'm 13 and I constantly miss school because of the constant constipation, indigestion. When I don't get that and I'm at school, i got heartburn twice this year at school. I also notice I'm always the fastest one to finish my food. My doctors prescribed me prescription laxatives but I usually forget to take it. I also love to subconciously grab a bar of snickers or gum and just chew away/eat.

The way I chew my food is that I chew it to a size small enough to be able to be swallowed easily, I do not chew thoroughly.

They say you're supposed to chew each bite 32 times! I think that's a bit excessive!
Try putting your fork down between each bite. If it's a sandwich, put it down between each bite, and concentrate on chewing it better.
For the other problems, drink lots of water during the day. NOT soda pop! Water, green tea, (it's good with honey,) and juices. If necessary, start taking Metamucil once or twice a day. A stool softener a day, is safe and very effective. You can get the generic (ducosate sodium) at any drug store.
Good luck! :)

chewing good helps ur system to digest well ... just think otherwise we did not need teeth at all ...
eating fast ....is the reason for ur heartburn
soln is simple ..change ur eatin habits... keep "eating time" meant for eating only. dont watch tv or read news paper etc. dont have habit of gulping and run to ur school or college.try avoiding physical work immediately after food.
