Inflamitory arthritis?!

Question: My uncle has had inflamitory arthritis now for 50 years. So much in fact that he can only move his arms and legs no more then 5-8 inches away from his body in all directions. Are there any sites that have information on this condition? Also have there been any treatments lately in the last few years on this?

There are tons of new treatments for arthritis. I think that what you call inflammatory arthritis is probably rheumatoid arthritis. There are tons of new meds that do not include surgery. The longer your uncle stays "frozen" like that the harder it will be to fix it without the help of surgery. He needs to go to a rheumatologist that can find a good combo of medicines that could at least get some of the stiffness away. All those meds you hear about like remicade, humira, embrel, orencia, arava are fairly new treatments for RA and probably can help him.
The treatment of all kinds of arthritis have change in the last 20 years. Doctors have learned lots of new things about how to treat arthritic patients. He needs to go to his doctor and ask about it.
Good luck!

If you go to www.webmd.com they might have some advice or you could inquire with a doctor about surgery.
