RN's & RT's!! Are Respiratory Therapists respected?!
Question: How do RN's feel about RT's?
Answers: How do RN's feel about RT's?
I'm a RN and, I have the utmost respect for RT's. Yes, Nurse's do have knowledge in regards to the resp.system but, a Respiratory Therapist is far more knowledgeable when a patient is on a respirator,( depending on what area of medicine the Nurse is in = ICU ), dealing with a code situation= ABG's, suctioning a patient with a Trach., how to teach patients proper techniques for using inhalers, IS, Chest PT, among many other abilities. Resp. Therapists are valued and knowledgeable. I, personally, think that Resp. Therapists have a busy, tough job and, I respect them. Thanks for all that you do !!
Across the board, RN's do not respect RT's. The majority of RN's feel they are "better" and "above" Respiratory. Which of course is completely absurd. RT's possess much better patient assessment skills. RT's are able to multi-task. RT's are able to handle a broader patient base - regardless. RT's are assigned numerous patients at a time - not just 5 patients. RT's handle any situation that arises.
