Why would the doctor slap your arm before you get a shot?!

Question: they've never done this to me, but my friend said they did it to her. why would they do that??

i've never heard of anyone doing this...do they clean it before they slap it? i would think that if they clean it before they slapped her arm, it could cause bacteria to be on the skin and possibly puncture her arm when they put the needle in. i'd ask why they do that.

ther are two reasons for this
1 to bring up the veins to put the needle in
2 to deaden the needle going in you would not feel it as bad
