Weird Experiment I Want To Try?!

Question: Ok, this is going to sound really stupid but whatever.

Anyway, I want to see what will happen to me when I get woken up in the deepest stage of REM sleep.
I'll use an alarm clock to wake me up.

So my question is, how many hours after falling asleep should I set my alarm to so I can attempt to wake myself up in the deepest stage?

Also, I would like to know, would this work?

I'm trying this because people say if you're waken up in the deepest stage of REM sleep you have night terrors or something.

Please refrain from calling me stupid etc. because I quite already know that and I don't give a ****. I just want some answers.

Thanks!
xoxo

It's different for everyone but it is between 2-4 hours after you first fall asleep. You should have someone look at you when you are sleeping so that they can tell you if you are in REM sleep, then you will know just how long it takes for you to hit your REM cycle. Basically they will watch your eyes after you fall asleep...they are watching for Rapid Eye Movement, hence the REM...that should help you. Also, you won't have night terrors but what happens is that a lot of times you won't wake up all the way and you will be in a state of diminished awareness. So if someone was to see you this way, they would think you were sleepwalking or something. And...an alarm clock won't work, you will have to have someone wake you up suddenly. You won't remember what is going on but they will be able to tell you what you did...or you can videotape it. GOOD LUCK!

no life.. i didnt call u stopid.

An hour or two after you fall asleep. That is when you are in your "deepest" sleep. just don't operate and heavy machinery :-)

Hmmm.... I've never heard of that. I'm sorry I can't be of any help, but that sounds interesting. It sounds kind of logical. I would just think you would be real groggy or something.

well after a fe hours your body is just relazing and dreems really havent started yet try 3 hours and just have fun I gess!???

2 hours to 3 hours is the normal for most

since there is NO WAY to know exactly when the deepest REM sleep will happen, set your alarm for a different time every night for perhaps a month, and see which mornings you are in the worst mood the next day. Hope that helps.

I dont know the exact hours of rem sleep, however, you need more than an alarmclock to wake you up. that will just make you wake up slowly.

Have a friend shake the crap out of you instead. =P

I'll save you the hassle and tell you what happens, you will feel miserable like you got no sleep at all. Rapid Eye Movement sleep is the most important part of your sleep cycle, but it is not necessarily the "deepest" part of your sleep and is not correlated with night terrors. Choosing the right time is hard to do because you cycle in and out of REM sleep, it may come an hour after you fall asleep and last only a few minutes or may last for an hour before you cycle out into another stage. The only way to know when you are in REM sleep is to monitor brain activity.

If you are really interested, there are many scientists that would love to have you in their labs to do sleep experiments on.

It doesn't sound stupid...
I'm all up for trying new things, and I see you must be too!
Just look it up on Google, try a scientific website.
It should be able to tell you.
And I don't think that's what happens, I just think you're simply...woken up!
But I don't know, so you might want to check =]

dreaming is a trippy thing did you know you can control what you do in your dreams look it up its called lucid dreaming. You should try setting your alarm for around four wake up stay awake for about an hour then go back to sleep by doing that you will be more likely to be in a deeper sleep and have those dreams.

Rem periods differ for people. some 20 minutes others differ. You just repeat the stages throughout the night.

If you are being woken up by an outside force while in the rem stage it will seem totally out of sync with what you are dreaming about.

The most accurate way to be woken up during that period. Is to sign up for sleep studies in your area. Should have some school or hospital that might be doing sleep clinics.

They monitor you through the whole sleep process.

i don't know about all that but I heard that if you keep a journal next to your bed and write everything you remember dreaming after you wake up RIGHT AWAY. After a few weeks you will start writing crazy stuff that you wont even remember writing and your subconscious gets all freaky on you. The man who told me that did it and it freaked him out so he quit, and he was told by his college professor.

Well I learned in psychology class that if you just tell yourself what you want to do and when you will do it in regards to sleep, it happens. We had an assignment to write down our dreams or something and my teacher told us to just say I will wake up after 1st dream, or during whatever state, or whatever. Say it over and over out loud with your eyes closed. I don't know if it would work in the deepest state, but it worked for our assignment amazingly well.

Alarm clock wouldn't work as there are no fixed timings for REM sleep.Instead, another person can help in detecting REM sleep and waking you up.There is no evidence to support the idea that people shall have night terrors or any such things when woken up from a REM or any other stage of sleep.Still want to try, please go ahead.

i dont know if itll work cause i know nothing about that but i think its a smart experiment

the best way to do this is to hav sum1 else monitor nd wake u up. itll be easier for them to spot ur rapid eyemovement than for u to guess. when u wake during rem u forget the timeperiod n which u were awake completely (if u go bak to sleep right after). that period ur awake is also supposd to b the time ur the most honest. i would luv to b ur partner but we dont kno eachother so that wont work. if u cant get a partner try setting the alarm to sound after 4 hours of sleep. u should b dRowZy...
