The more you go out in public, does that increase your chances of getting sick?!

Question: If you're always out and about, going to many malls, going to the city, I'm in the NYC area, and always aruond other people, doesn't that increase your chances of getting sick, expose you to much greater concentrations of germs, and ultimately, isn't very good for you, especially if you don't have the best immune system, or are just prone to getting sick?

I just feel like it's safer to shop online, or go to a store when absolutely necessary, and avoid malls and large amounts of people, and just go to and from where you want to be and that's that.

I know that sounds ultra-paranoid but I've been getting sick left and right for a long time, and there's nothing I can really explain it on, other than I've been going out 6 days of the week, and am ALWAYS around people.

Some things you just can't avoid, like the supermarket.

IS there truth to this, or am I just being a hypochondriac?

The less you're around people, the better your health?

OR does exposure increase immunity?

i think it just depends on your immune system...since you said you dont have the best immune system, going out 6 days a week may be risky, but i suggest gradual exposure...if you are never exposed to "bad germs" then your immune system won't know how to fight them.....when i was younger, i wasn't the most hygienic kid in the world...but rather than getting sick all the time, it was quite the opposite...and now i am almost never sick...usually i get a minor cold once a year, but thats it...so i feel that exposure to germs to some degree is a good thing...i'm not suggusting you go around to every sick person you know and try to take in all their germs or never wash your hands before eating and stuff, i'm just saying that everyday things...such as going out in public...can provide a good waker-upper for your immune system

I agree with you totally, I was at the malls for 3-4 times this past week when it was packed and I have a cold now, It sucks but I'm not going to lock myself in because of it.

I do agree with you though.

While this is all very true, you don't have to be a hermit to avoid getting sick! Just strengthen your immune system by taking care of yourself! I work 2 jobs and go out all the time and I haven't been sick all year! All you have to do is eat a lot of good food with lots of vitamins, get plenty of sleep and avoid drinking too much.
