Is there a swab that can tell if you have had a cigarette in the last year?!

Question: A friend is having a nurse come to her home to take a blood test for her husband as they are getting life insurance. He has quit smoking and it has been about a year with a few social set backs with having a drag or so. Someone told her the nurse will swab the mouth and give a answer if her husband has smoked within the last year or so.

Could this possibly be true? Seems far fetched but you never know with technology now.

Thanks!

I wish I had firm evidence to share but a test for something of that nature over the length of term proposed would be impossibly inaccurate. You are constantly replacing your cells, and most "Swab"-able locations are some of the fast to regenerate. Smoke is also a very significant particulate matter is some environments (Casinos, Bars, etc...)

In short - This doesn't exist because the evidence would likely be too corrupted during the test period likely due to external forces and biological cycles.

Not that I know of I do keep with this related tests

I looked up on the internet to find out how long nicotine stays in your system, and the answer I kept finding was 72 hours. I don't know about those swabs, though, they seem to be able to find just whatever it is they're looking for. You might try searching the internet for the information you seek. There were plenty of websites when I went looking. Good luck.

Simple answer is no! At best, a mouth swab could detect 3 or 4 weeks for a really heavy smoker.

Insurance companies typically pick up nicotine....actually cotinine presence in the urinalysis.

if positive, he will get smoker rates.
