Bloodwork tomorrow, but I can't stand bleeding! Any help??!

Question: I can't stand bleeding because my vision starts to get blackish, I get nauseous, and then throw up (sometimes). Last time the nurse didn't say anything though, any ideas to why this happens and how I cant get through it?

P.S. don't call me a ***** because it will break my fragile little mind. :) THANKS

As a phlebotomist and RN I have seen this many times. What seems to help is to tell the person who will be drawing your blood that you get nauseated and sometimes pass out, and ask them if you can lay down while having the blood drawn. Don't be down on yourself about this, we all have at least one thing that makes us queasy. Also look away when you are getting stuck, that helps too. Try making conversation it will help take your mind off what is about to happen. Hope this helps.

Take your ipod and look away....

when i see blood my vision gets blackish too and i pass out what i do when i have to get like shots or something i dont look at the needle or the blood coming out of it, just look the opposite way, and i try to think of something else besides the needle, like (what your going to have for breakfast, lunch, dinner) or some other type of thing

Don't look, and try not to psych yourself up.

Reminds me of a funny story tho'. My cousins (1 guy and his sister) are both queasy about blood. She went with him to get some blood work, and he fainted in the doctor's office when he was having his blood drawn. So the sister came in the room to see what all of the commotion was about, saw her brother on the floor and fainted too!

Or...maybe you had to be there. True story though.

Good luck! (You'll be fine!)
