Emotional/Physical pain catching up to me?!

Question: In 5th grade my class toke a Scoliosis exam and I passed, because the nurse didn't check it well. I toke the exam again in 7th grade and it turned out to be very moderate and I need surgury.

I didn't really care at first, because I had no idea it would hurt so bad. My bad hurts 24/7 but when it hurts very bad, it feels like someone is pulling my spine out.

Emotional pain is also a problem. I HATE it when I take a shower and look in the mirror and see that my back is twisted.

Once I get surgury in summer, my back is gonna have a HUGE ,long, deep scar.

My parents also argue alot too, so it makes it worst.

Can I do something that will make me less sad?

I've been through this before, as you can see from the info below. Although my parents weren't a problem, I did wear a brace that was very visible. I didn't have my first date until I was in 12th grade.

It *is* possible for your curve to start developing between your two back checks so it may not have been anybody's fault.

Can you tell us about your back? Have you seen a scoliosis specialist? If so, what has he/she told you? How many degrees is your curve? Do you know where it is in your spine? (Each vertebra is assigned an ID. The cervical spine has C1-C7, the thoracic spine has T1-T12, and the lumbar spine has L1-L5. The sacrum has S1-S5 but it is normal for these to be already fused.)

You are not defined by the shape of your back. You are young and I'm sure that your friends and family think you are a beautiful person. The surgery will most likely not completely straighten your spine, but you will be straightER (and possibly a little taller).

Every scoliosis patient is different. I can't relate perfectly to you but I *can* tell you a little about my case.

I guess I'm lucky that I was "well compensated" (the middle of my head is right above the middle of my rear) and my curve wasn't too noticable. On the other hand, I was braced very quickly once my curve was diagnosed so I was concerned about how I looked in the brace and didn't think at all about my body shape.

When you get your fusion, your scar will be pretty obvious for awhile, but it will fade over time. I've also known women that are proud of their scars, thinking of them as signs of what they've gone through. So, your thoughts about your scar is just attitude!

Please email if you want to talk about your back some more.

dont think about ur bak as often and if ur parents start arguin just go outside.....like and walk around or sometin....
