Why do i have times when i can't wake up?!

Question: Sometimes when i take naps, especially in the afternoon, i like start to wake up, and i can hear and see whats going on, but i can't move or speak. It's like i'm trying to wake up and get out of bed, but i can't move or even ask someone to wake me. I know i'm not dreaming and this happens a couple times a week. Does anyone know why this is happening to me or if it's serious?

Sounds like sleep paralysis, I've had it many times in my life, mostly when I don't sleep enough over a long period, or when under a lot of stress. Are you sleep deprived? How much sleep are you getting at night? If you are not sleeping enough, and my guess is that you might not be based on the fact that you feel a need to take naps on a regular basis, then most likely it is simply sleep paralysis, which is very common and not harmful in the least- but it can seem a little scary. When we do not get adequate sleep, all kinds of things can happen- do a little research on sleep deprivation and see if anything fits. Taking any drugs?

You may have narcolepsy. This sounds like sleep paralysis. If you also lose your muscle tone at times and get extremely sleepy throughout the day and MUST take a nap, you may have narcolepsy. Good luck, go see your doctor

holy **** that happened to me. i fell asleep across 2 carts in the caddy shack when i was waiting to get out and i COULD NOT move for my life. pretty freaky stuff. i cant wait to see the answers.

This is called sleep paralysis. It turns off movement in response to dreams. At times it is possible to be quite awake while our body is asleep. I have found that all one has to do is start coughing a little and the body wakes up.
