Is tap water really that bad for you?!

Question: I was wondering if it is as bad for you as some people say. A lot of people drink regular tap water and are fine but what are the risks of drinking it straight from the faucet?

I live in Kansas if that makes any difference.

It depends on what's in it. Buy a water testing kit from your local hardware store (about $10-$15) and test it. If it has high levels of lead or other metals it could be bad.

It's usually ok though. Like someone else mentioned it also has flouride added to it, which really does help prevent cavities.

No. In fact you need the flouride and stuff added to the water.

Tap water is safe or it wouldn't be coming out of your faucet!

There are strict guidelines which water companies have to follow, therefore making it and keeping it safe. It is perfectly fine, I promise!

Nope!! it jus depends on where you live and how clean the water is

tap water is not cleaned properly and picks up all the metal and iron and crap from the pipes it travels through to get to your sink.
It really is awful, in any city.
However, bottled water is such a waste, so just use a brita filter, or water cooler.
Water called "Reverse Osmosis" is the BEST for keeping heatly and staying young.

XOOXO

no. tap water is the same as bottle water pretty much..its filtered and cleaned.

It's worked fine for me. I've never had a problem with drinking tap water.

I haven't seen anything directly linked to health and tap water (personally).. but in Florida I have seen the residue from the tap water filter and let me tell you it is disgusting. The filter got rust and dirt it was horrible and the fact that people drink water with that in it really made me think.

It was one of those big high end filters though. Not one of the little faucet ones.

People have been drinking tap water ALOT longer than bottled water.

Just don't drink the water in Mexico and you should be fine.

It's fine. I've been drinking tap water all my life.

The only time I didn't drink it was just after the fire storm (I live in San Diego County). The police, water district, etc told everyone not to touch the water, even to shower, until they had finished testing it. In fact, our water was shut off for five days after they let us back after the evacuation....

Once they said it was fine, I waited about a week (just to make sure any contaminates were out of the pipes), then went back to drinking it.

One sure way to tell is this: If your dog or cat won't drink it, then neither should you. Dogs are WAY more sensitive than people. Right now, my cats are happily drinking the water.

You have to remember the water flows through a lot of pipes to get to your house. I was working for a guy who sold water purifiers. We sold 3 of them to some people here in los angeles living in an apt building. A few months later they called to complain that there was something wrong with the filters.

We went out to check the filters, we took them apart, well they were clogged up, it looked like brownish mud. My friend said this was rust from the pipes in the building. I couldn't believe it.

Now I know why there are so many water stores here.(stores where you can walk in and fill up your jugs with filtered water from a machine, most charge 20 cents a gallon).

I drink mine all the time.. I am finr. If you are really worried, get one of those things that you hook on your faucet and then it filters when you turn it one. My sister wont drink the water in her house cause she is scared. I drink it though and I am fine!
