ARMY physical?!

Question: I am getting ready to sign on with the ARMY. I have been told I need to get a physical. I am terrified of needles and that I might have something wrong with me that they can't accept.
how do I prepare myself for an exam and what should I expect?

I was in the army many moons ago (back in 1995 is when I got out actually). The Army physical back then consisted of height, weight, an eye check, hearing check, blood pressure, blood work, and seeing if you are overall physically fit.

Your fear of needles is another story. Working in a hospital I can tell you a trick that may or may not help you but it's worth a try right.... When you are about to be stuck for blood work, look away and right when you feel the initial stick take in a deep breath (initially) but don't hold your breath... be sure to breath regularly. For some reason focusing on that initial breath diverts the mind away for a moment. Also drink lots of water to plump your veins. It helps so they don't have to hunt for them.

Good luck to you. Don't worry about the needle aspect of it too much. From what I remember, the blood work during the physical was minimal compared to everything else that we did that day.

you just take it..no prep

all you can really do is hope for the best, tell me how it goes im signing up soon.

You will pretty much pass as long as you are not pregnate or ever had kids and as long as you have no stds asthma or lung problems.

In a physical they don't test you for needles.
Or the physicals I got which were sports physicals I dont know if they're different but they just test your blood and everything like that. If your eyes are working and your nose and everything like that. Dont be scared it'll be a breeze!!
Good luck in the army too
:]

They get a complete medical history from you. You will have to duck walk. You can to about.com and type in military physical and see a list of things that will happen and how you might be disqualified.
Some conditions if you have them can be waivered.
If you do get in and when you arrive at reception before basic you will get alot of shots. And if you go overseas you will get even more.

You will go to MEPS. At MEPS you will have a day of physical exams. They will do a blood draw. A pap for women. An eye exam. A pee test. A mobility test. Where they make you move around to see if you have any problems with your joints and to check if you have scoliosis. The process is long, tiring and very monotonous. However, its not that bad. Its only a day and the pain from the blood draw isn't excruciating. No big deal! Hang in there and don't sweat it.

you better get over your fear of needles going into the army you get shots up the ying yang when you join and while you are in. In basic you get one in your butt that feels like they are injecting peanut butter in ya. the exam is the same as any other one LOL good luck HA oh and you better get some tougher skin girly all the needles is the least of your worries

dont forget duck walk in ur underwear. you wqill have to give a urine sample and they will watch u do it. other than that, normal questionairres and hearing test. the shots wont start til u get to reception b4 BCT. find ur shot record and u might not have to get as many.
