This can "sort of" happen.
A hiatal hernia http://www.midwestgastro.com/patient_edu... happens when part of the stomach is pushed up into the esophagus. It can happen from from vomiting, pregnancy, or injury. Some people have a larger esophageal sphincter, making them more prone to this.
