I think you've mixed up your terms. Incontinence tends to pertain to loss of bladder control...
Deaf and unable to taste food probably, incontinance would be a real downer, and very messy. I've seen people cope with deafness and i'd probably lose alot of weight if i couldn't taste what i eat.
Deafness is better.
Some people choose monastic silence as a way of life to better hear the voice of God.
No one chooses to piss or **** himself to better hear the voice of God or for any other reasons of self-edification.
I think I would rather be deaf. I know ASL, and being deaf doesn't require the wearing of a diaper over your ears.

I'm fluent in Sign Language, so deaf is fine with me.
