With my kidney and pancreas transplants, I am a walking research project. I received my transplants in 1996 and every year now is a quest for my doctors. Yes, it is very rewarding what YOU are doing.
I'm female - they usually only want males for these studies because of the possibility of birth defects.
But otherwise, sure. It pays decent, too.

I work in a hospital and see it everyday.. it is very important to medicine. Without medical studies, there wouldn't be any medicine.. :)
you bet i would.. I just finished 48 weeks of Hep C treatments, and if not for all the people who endured the testings for the antivirals I probably wouldn't have whipped this virus.. I had the hardest Genotype to beat with a success rate of only 30%.. luckily many other people had went thru the testing of the new drugs to combat the hep c virus, and I thank God everyday for the people willing to lay it on the line to find a cure to all dieseases
They use us all for guinea pigs anyway why not get paid for it!
Yes indeed!! I have beginnings of glaucoma and am entered in a six-year study of medicinal eye drops. Am in my last year. Most of my doctor visits are free. I hope it helps others like me in the near future.
If it involved taking a new and un-proven medication, I probably wouldn't. The reason being that there is no way of telling what the side-effects of the medication are. Good grief, have you listened to some of the commercials for approved medications lately?
There's a medication for Psoriasis that promises to clear your skin. How does it do this? It knocks out your immune system, and, oh by the way, you might end up with Lymphoma, (lymphatic cancer,) if you take it!
How did they find out that some people get cancer by taking it? BINGO! It was the people who participated in the Medical Study that developed Lymphoma as a result of their participation.
It might make you "feel good" to participate in a medical study thinking that someday someone might be helped by what you did, but the obvious fact still remains that big pharmaceutical companies are in business for one reason......profit. They will sell medicines that are known to cause other diseases! Why? Because it helps people? No, because it is profitable. The fact is, that if they found cures for every disease, they would go out of business. Therefore, there is no motivation for finding cures to anything!
As long as modern medicine continues to treat symptoms instead trying to find out why people get sick and treat the cause, nothing will progress. Doctors, hospitals and Pharmaceutical companies will continue to "rake-in" trillions of dollars and people will continue to die from horific diseases after spending everything they have to get treated for it.
Everywhere you look on this planet tells you that we live in a "cause and effect" world. You light some brush, you reap a forest fire. The temperature drops below 32 degrees, water freezes. You smoke long enough, you get cancer. You drink enough alcohol, you destroy your liver. If you identify the cause and treat that, you can eliminate or decrease the effect. If you put out a brush fire before it spreads, you save a forrest. If you keep water above 32 degrees, it doesn't freeze. If you don't smoke, you decrease your chance of getting lung cancer. If you only drink alcohol in moderation, your liver is unaffected.
Modern medicine figuratively lets the forrest fire rage, then tries to put it out. It lets the lake freeze, then tries to thaw it. It tries to cure your lung cancer by shooting it with radiation and poisoning your whole body with toxic medicine that knocks out the only defense your body has and makes you so sick you wish you were dead!
No, I don't think I'm going to participate in any medical studies any time soon as long as they are "barking up the wrong tree!"
