It really depends on the situation. It can be good to talk about your problem and get people's input (even if it's just to take comfort in knowing that other people understand what you're talking about and have suggestions), but both the asker and answerers need to have some common sense. I really hate when people post stupid joke answers, but it's even worse in the health section- it's like they think other people's health is something to play around with. Also, the person asking the question should use good judgement when reading the answers and not use ideas that seem ineffective, incorrect, or potentially dangerous. Finally, it's important that, if a person is in a great deal of pain, feels suicidal, or has any other unbearable or potentially life-threatening problems, they forgo asking about it here and instead get proper medical attention as soon as possible.
People , when they are concerned about themsleves and are not ready and willing to go to a doctor, either by the nature of their problem or by their financial insufficiency, will opt to ask an opinion. The YA should only be considered as a place for opinion in such cases and should not be taken as a final say.
The people who answers also , should in turn, be responsible in responding to such doubts and their answers should be authentic as far as possible. Otherwise, it is better to remain only as a person who just opine with an inbuilt element of doubt about the authenticity.
Yes, they can be. People can relate to others by sharing their experiences, but the bottom line is that Medical Professionals should be consulted on any thing serious.
