In general, anytime the stool passes too fast, it may become green - just think out any disorder, that causes fast bowel movement (fast peristalsis) or diarrhea.

Also, babies after birth discharge greenish stool - meconium. Meconium is the first feces for a newborn baby. It is thick, and sticky.

Also, some babies (with the problems of milk digestion) may have greenish stool. Infant will need to adjust to the environment until his digestion becomes more normal. Picking a right formula may help.

Of course, different food pigments may stain your stool with greenish hue - let's mention salads, cucumbers, and all other fruits and vegetables that contain chlorophyll. Food dyes in juices, popsicles,
Jell-O, marmalade, green candies may make your stool green too. Iron may also cause greenish stool.
Blue food dyes may also stain your poo green.

Green leafy vegetables include:

romaine lettuce, leaf lettuce, Aragua, chicory, collard greens - spinach-like flavor, dandelion greens - bitter flavor, kale - cabbage-like flavor, mustard greens - spicy, spinach - sweet flavor, Swiss chard, Brussels sprouts, Rider, cabbage, endive, escarole, radicchio parsley, pak choi, garden cress and whatever else you can find on the market.

I bet you understand that those plants may stain different stuff in green color too.

Other type of food pigments giving some color:
Brilliant Blue (Blue), Indigotine (Dark Blue), Fast Green FCF (Bluish green), Allura Red (Red), Erythrosine (Pink), Tartrazine (Yellow - that stuff is actually often used for covering the medical pills and stains your urine in the yellow color when you eat a pill as well), Sunset Yellow FCF (Orange).

So, remember, bacteria, or a green or blue or yellow artificial coloring of food eaten may cause green or blue stool.

See a doctor! Good luck!

most likely, you've gotta viral illness which can last 3-21 days. drink more fluids and treat your symptoms. worry less and get some rest.

If in doubt, see the doc.
