Medical question?!

Question: Me and my boyfriend have been having some health issues lately. For a couple days now, he's had diarrhea and been kind of tired. Being lactose intolerant has run through his family a little, though he's always been able to eat or drink anything made of dairy products. He's afraid now that it's catching up to him. He had to force down his lunch at school today, which was a bologna and cheese sandwich, cheez-its, some chocolate, a soda and applesauce. He just threw up about a half hour ago. I mead him eat 2 slices of starfruit a half hour before that. His vomit was a bright pinkish colour and he said he could see bologna and starfruit in it. He doesnt have a fever though and after that he said he's feeling alot better. For me, I had diarrhea for a few days then it subsided. Now I have stomach cramps and nausea but no vomiting. I dont think I have a fever but Im a little cold and I feel real tired. I have no appetite either. Anyone have any possible idea what's wrong with us?

It sounds like you both picked up a stomach virus. As long as you can take clear fluids, like broth, flat Sprite or 7-up, and maybe jello, and keep those down then you should not dehydrate and the above diet will give your gut a rest. You can then progress to a BRATT diet for diarrhea. BRATT is Bannanas, Rice, Applesauce, and Tea and Toast. Follow that diet until the diarrhea subsides. Hope you both feel better soon.

This could just a flu being passed around. And check with Big Boy!

It could just be a stomach bug that you have shared. The best thing is to avoid eating at this point. The digestive tract needs to rest when you are having vomiting and/or diarrhea. Avoid eating or drinking anything for several hours. If you are thirsty, eat small amounts of ice chips. After a few hours, if you have not had any cramping, vomitting, diarrhea or anything, then take small sips of water. Space them out by 10 minutes. If you are still okay after an hour, then continue. If not then don't take in anything else for another 2 hours. After another 2 hours, try eating a half of a saltine or a clear broth. No more than 4 ounces or a half cup. Wait another hour. No problem? Take 2 cups of cooked rice and boil it with about 4 cups of water for minutes. Add a little salt. cool it and sip on it. don't eat the rice, just drink the liquid. Avoid any food or drinks unless they are clear liquids (broth, watered down Sprite, pedialyte, rice water) and a few saltine or rice crackers until your digestive tract has calmed down. This means no diarrhea, vomitting, or cramping for 24 hours. Then slowly add bland foods such as poached eggs, unbuttered toast, plain noodles or chicken noodle soup (take the meat chunks out if there are any). Hope you feel better soon. Another note of caution: if you have any major health issues like diabetes or HIV or anythihng else or if you are very small and get dehydrated easily, you might need to go to the minor emergency.
