Your eye gets very uncomfortable, the cornea gets irregular, and your vision can be compromised. Don't use drops with preservatives, and avoid any "gets the red out" drops. My recommendation would be to see an eye doctor to rule out infections, or complications from long-term dry eye. Sometimes dry eyes are caused by other physiclal illnesses, and the way these manifest is first in the eye.

More specifics might be helpful, such as what type of eyedrops you are using...
if not using one specifically for dry eye, try that. its usually a thicker drop.
