Common Cold: why do nostrils alternate between which one is open and which one i!

Question: It's the movement of mucous in your sinuses. Its kind of like lava flowing around in there.

Answers: It's the movement of mucous in your sinuses. Its kind of like lava flowing around in there.

Mine do not alternate...the left one is always closed. And always when I have a dentist appointment...go figure.

Because the Mucus flows from one side of the sinus cavity to the other. Seems in an anti Gravity manner.

I've noticed that too, it all depends what side I'm sleepin on. So I guess since it's a liquid type substance it's just easily movin around.

It's the way the mucous is distributed in your sinuses that determine it. You've got some pretty big spaces behind your nose there, the biggest and most often infected is called the Maxillary sinus, as it overloads with mucus it eventually spills over into the nasal cavity, right at the top where you feel the pressure, and it's purely the positioning of the mucus that blocks one or the other or both.

Don't know why but I can tell you that you can clear your sinuses....
Chinese Hot Mustard or Arby's Horsey Sauce will open you right up. and for the more experienced Wasabi
