Why do you put a raw steak on a black eye?!
Question: i've seen people in cartoons do this, after they get beat up and have a black eye or something. i was always confused about this.

I believe that the idea came from trying to do the equivalent of trying to ice the wound prior to refrigerators with freezers and ice makers. I have had injuries that the doctor tells me to ice up, but never to drag a piece of meat out of the fridge and place that on my wound. It has to have come from past prior to refrigeration, because why would anybody place a piece of meat filled with bacteria on your wound?
I've always been baffled and put it off as being something that people used to do, because I haven't heard of it's continued. I did see it in old cartoons but very little in the modern media.
I guess a raw steak is something thats pretty cold and it could help the swelling go down after you get punched in the face.
