First, one doesnt go to the hospital with pneumonia. And second, vomiting is not a symptom of pneumonia. It might be a combo of "flu" plus pneumonia, but never pneumonia alone. Pneumonia is treated at home as described below. There are TWO kinds of pneumonia, Bacterial and Viral.

A dosage of Antibiotics that cost less that $5 will cure your father if he has Bacterial Pneumonia. Untreated, this has the potential to kill.

If your father has viral Pneumonia, that is entirely different kind of pneumonia. That kind, the body will respond and he will eventually have what is called "walking pneumonia" On this kind of pneumonia, an ordinary "shot" against viral pneumonia does some good, but not a cure. People who become deathly ill with viral pneumonia are given anti viral drugs. I dont think from your description he is at this stage.

Pneumonia, of course, is where bacteria or virus infect the lungs and the respritory tract.

You need to be certain of what it is that your Dad has. Pneumonia is fluid in the lungs. If it is Pneumonia he needs to see a Doctor. Never self diagnose when symptoms are this severe.

Your father will become dehydrated very quickly with these symptoms. He can become (temporarily) mentally impaired.

Call 911 and have him taken to the hospital ASAP. No home remedies will make him better if he's this ill.

Take him to the hospital. There is no home remedy for pneumonia. People die from it. My Dad had a fever so high he almost died before my aunt put him in the car and drove him. He almost died in hospital too. In fact, fifteen years on he's lucky to be alive.

Your Dad is being an idiot. Call an ambulance. Manipulate him. Tell him to go to the hospital or you'll do something nasty. Make threats and follow through. Some men are just stupid for being stubborn.

You are in a good spot! Turn on your shower, HOT, close the curtain the steam helps bring up all that mucus!! keep him warm don't let him get chilled! push his intake of fluid at small doses. I will be praying for you both. Hope not to offend anyone but i know prayer helps!

There are no home remedies for pneumonia, and if your mother is with him, she needs to threaten him with taking his power of attorney and making judgments FOR him if he's going to behave like an incompetent.

I understand if he's afraid to go to a hospital, but that's where he needs to go. Call an ambulance and when they come, meet the paramedics outside and alert them that your father is behaving erratically and may be hostile and confrontational.

Are you sure he has pneumonia? Or a stomach flu?

Pneumonia without going to doc is dangerous. You could try echinacea as a natural antibiotic, but this is not useful once you're really sick (just at the very hint of a cold). Make sure he sleeps sitting up with pillows. If you have any asthma puffers around that would probably help. Steam may help. Make sure fever is kept down with tylenol or advil. You could try chicken soup (but has to be homemade for the health benefits, something about chicken bones boiled down actually is what is beneficial, not the canned or boxed stuff).

Give multivitamins. If you have a juicer make a vitamin bomb by juicing apples, carrots, a slice of ginger - almost any combo of fruits and veggies in the juicer will certainly help. Make sure he drinks lots of fluids.

Make sure there are no drafts from open windows. Keep warm. Use a heating pad on his back if he has sore back or chest from pneumonia. Keep a cotton scarf wrapped around throat. Change bed often if he is sweating at night from coughing - wash sheets and all bedding to get rid of germs. Change his toothbrush often for same reason.

If he has stomach flu make sure he is not dehydrated by throwing up/diarrhea. Make sure drinking water and if can't drink try to serve ice chips. Try club soda with any real fruit juice (avoid sugary sodas).

Hope all that helps - if he is very weak you have to call ambulance. continue to try and get him to a doctor.

good luck !

he needs to go back if it is getting worse-there are many different forms of pneumonia. some are caused by bacteria and others by viruses. Certain versions can be highly fatal- even more so if he doesn't seek medical help. No one likes to go to the hospital myself included but he really does need to go back to the hospital.

While I agree with Kim that prayer does work, I also agree with the others. Stubborn or not, he is being very foolish, and selfish towards his family. The needs of his family should be #1 on his list of priorities and getting medical help is what he needs to do. If he won't go, and should he pass out, or not be able to control what he does, then YOU need to take control and call for an ambulance and have him taken to the hospital. However you do it, whomever you need to call to get the help you need, up to and including the police, do call 911 and get the help he needs, right now.
