What are the long term effects for smoking crystal meth?!

Question: a relative of mine i just learned when she was in her 20's ran away from home, went to california, and lived homeless while smoking meth. Her mom knew she went there and it was during a time where people were killing off homeless people all around the state and she was so scared to death for her daughter so she flew to where she thought she lived and found her in an alley way. she went to rehab and all that and never did it again, but she was smoking meth probably on/off for 6 months. ive known her all my life and was So Surprised i couldnt believe it. shes now 47 years old by the way and my mom just told me today about it. i just want to know if she has bad health for the future? she recently divorced, moved away, lost contact with family, and married a really creepy guy. she has kids and i was best friends with them and i never see them :( do you think her using meth accounted for her doing such a dramatic thing?

They sat a picture is worth a thousand words:

These pictures show mug shots of people when they first started using and later mug shots.

TELL HIM/HER TO STOP!!! ITS ILLEGAL! IT ALSO CAN RUIN YOUR HEALTH!!

It messes with your brain. That type of behavior is not atypical.

death is the long term effect...meth kills brain cells every use..and they dont ever come back

probably

crystal meth can have serious impacts on people's live, well into the future. her recent actions, however, are probably influenced, in the majority, for something that has happened recently. if you suspect she may have relapsed into using drugs again and hr children are in danger, contact CPS immediately; crystal meth is not something to take chances with, and they could be in grave danger.

brain fried , rotting from the inside and will die very soon....

yes, and if she continues to do it's the ultimite effect is death.

Sounds like she might be at it again.

DRUGS WILL **** YOU UP. And friends & family are hurt the worst.

NO,I DON'T,SOMETIMES IT JUST TIME TO MOVE ON

watch the movie, american meth. it's awful. you can lose all your teeth and your whole jaw. they also pick at their skin and because they don't eat much or healthily they probably lose brain cells as well. not pretty.

Absolutely. Meth is a horrible drug. It can make you appear 20 years older than you actually are with continued use. It is highly addictive and has horrible effects on your body. It causes the individual to pick at their skin to the point the have holes in their skin because it feels like something is crawling inside of their skin. That is the effect of the drug.

Easy....DEATH

It burns holes in your brain. yes, her judgment could be seriously affected.

wow.... um I am 22 and i was using meth for about a year or so ( I was 13 when i first tried it, did it for about 6 months, then used again when I was 16 , used for about 8 months) Been clean for almost 5 years! =] i know that some of the effects are dramatic changes in your actions, behavior, early loss of memory and may or may not cause crystalized lungs depending on how much she smoked or if she did it some other way, ( snorting, or usage of a needle in her arm) did she come to someone with concerns about her health lately? If so i'd def recommend that she get checked out, thats all the info i know of.

I don't think it's the meth, although it does weird stuff to you. although 6 mo is a long time i don't think it is long enough for her teeth to fall out and things like that which are the long term side effects. It sounds to me like she was kinda dramatic to begin with, to run away and start down a path to meth addiction. This may just be those parts of her personality resurfacing. After all, there is no common sense involved with starting meth.

Meth will make you do some pretty crazy stuff. It will rot your teeth, ruin your skin, kill brain cells, affect the lungs, and other organs. I used to make it and there is nothing in it that is safe. I am not proud of it, and I have seen some pretty crazy ****. I don't do it anymore and I am so happy not to be that person again. It will ruin your life and put you in prison. I am one of the lucky ones that had a short term problem. About 2 years total. As for the old timers I've seen that do it for very long periods, I don't know if they can ever get back to normal, even if they quit.

she will age quickly, her teeth will rot, she needs to have a std checkup for all diseases even aids, as they often trade their body for the drug... her entire face will change, im sure she lost weight, but she is suspetable to lung disease as well,, The crystal meth of today is not what it was in the 90,s.. this crap now has draino and all kinda of crazy crap in it

Don't listen to the alarmists. It seems people are ignoring the fact that she used crystal meth 20 years ago. I doubt after 20 years she decided to start using again. She stopped so long ago I don't think you need to worry. While I've never used, I have friends that did 15 years ago and they do not have any long term effects from it. Something in her recent life has caused this "dramatic" behavior. You don't know what goes on behind closed doors, maybe her ex-husband wasn't what he appeared to be. If you are worried about current drug usage, confront her.

Well its definitely not good for you. That story is very unfortunate and im glad shes off it. Her body will have recovered over that long of time. Smoking on and off for 6 months is not as bad as it gets, in that case it would depend on how long she would go without sleep at a time. Smoking it is unbelievably harsh on a persons mouth, throat, and lungs. With all respect she may have had a stronger body at 20 on meth occasionally, than free and clear at 47. Not everyone on meth does such things as run to homelessness but im sure meth played a huge role. sorry to get longwinded

Ok this is the thing she used meth for 6 months 20 yrs ago. she has been clean for 20 yrs (kudos to her!!!!) However her leaving her husband is not a side affect of the meth. It was just time for her to move on. that was her busniess and in the past. she is clean and sober!!!!!! 20 yrs strong know all the facts befor you jump to conclusions!

The long term effects can be fatal, Jail, etc. unless she makes a sincere commitment for treatment.
She will need a lot of professional /family support to see the light if it isn't too late.
Yes, using meth can cause on to experience a very dramatic behavior .

what are the long term effects for smoking crystal meth?

DEATH.

Meth like many other drugs causes you to do irrational things.

yes 100%''

No.
Meth can cause you to do stupid things but it's more the person than the drug. People are wuick to blame the drug for the idiotic things they do. I have never heard of anyone going homeless just to be on meth. Meth is not cheap. It's kinda hard to believe a homeless person can be a meth addict. If she was on meth for just 6 months, then there won't any long-term effects. Other than her always thinking about it and eventually getting it again. Depending on how much she can control herself. There's many people that don't have any self control. Those are the addicts.
I first tried crystal meth about 6 years ago. I still do it but I don't consider myself an addict. Because I don't "do dramamtic things" to get it or to do it. I am in school working on an associate's degree, I have my own IT management company, does that sound like a hopeless meth addict??No! I just know what I do and where my limits are. I'm smart about it. I do drugs but I'm responsible about it.
People like that relative of yours are just ignorant and selfish. She only did that because she didn't care about anything or anyone else but her own meth high. Wich is ridiculous. She has no self control. I mean, we can all do drugs.....but we can't do them forever!
