They probably already know that they need to see a doctor. Getting responses from others reinforces what they already know, and validates their own feelings which may make it easier to go to a doctor.

Some have already been to a doctor, but want opinions and experiences of others out there. Some want to be somewhat prepared for when they go to the doctor, ie...what it is that they may have or not. Some answers may give them more questions to ask the doctors when they see them.

There are many people out there that have their own reasons for posting a question. Some may just be bored and have nothing better to do. Some may just be making up stuff to see what kind of answers they may get. Some are just having fun their own way.

I usually tell them that they need to seek medical attention if it is warranted. ie..severely depressed person. Those kind of people have a really hard time seeking help. Reinforcement from cyberspace may be the push that they need to get the help. It shows them that there are people out there that care. And that may give them hope. If they have hope, they may seek care and get better. Otherwise, they will feel like no one cares and what is the point in getting help. You have to debunk that feeling of helplessness/ hopelessness. If your email to them, helped them seek treatment, then good for you and them.

Alot of the people here are kid's and want attention.

The problem is most people dont have a doctor and alot of people are alone and they just want someone to talk to

why not?

I give them the wrong advice to counter the right ones.

Actually, I don't know why anyone would ask for medical advice like this.

people are afraid and want immediate answers or are afraid of the answers they will get at the dr's so they use this as a preview of what they may be told when they get to the dr

It makes that person feel better when they see other people may have had the same health problem or illness.

I always suggest seeing a doctor. It is helpful for people to hear that others can relate to what they are going through. It is also helpful to hear how others are dealing with there conditions or how best to deal with their doctor. People should not expect to be diagnosed via the Internet. The most experienced doctor cannot diagnose someone this way. I often share my personal experiences as well as my professional experience. Sometimes people need the extra push before going to their doctor. And for those with depression etc. it is great that they can sit in the comfort of their home and talk to to others who can relate.

Tell them to go to a professional as well. I think they are afraid of going to a doctor so look here for an answer.

Sometimes they're just looking for someone to tell them they're not alone or crazy. Sometimes they're scared to go to the Dr and find out what's wrong. Mostly I think they just need support and yes- to be told to go to a Dr. if they think it's something serious
