Does excessive consumption of sodas make you more flatulent?!

Question: I've never personally experienced flatulence after consuming mass quantities of soda. In fact, I've always experienced the crudeness of those loud series of obnoxious belches that'll deafen the person sitting next to me. If anything, long-termed consumptions of sodas have two adverse effects on your entire body:

1) Weakened immune systems and bone densities.

The sugar from that necessary sweetener( High-Fructose Corn Syrup ) is designed to make you crave that particular brand of soda more, so you purchase more of it.

As we age, our bone structures will naturally weaken. However, soda consumption will speed up this process as the hydrogen component added to the carbonation will leech out the calcium deposits from your bones your body manufactures naturally. Ever hear of osteoporous? If you are a woman, I'd think ahead to your late 20's- early 30's.

The good news to reverse this process is relatively quite simple and easy. Exercise at least three times a week while taking a calcium supplement( not a filler labeled as a supplement ) everyday will aid your body in the rebuilding of your bone density over time once you choose to cut down on your soda intake.

2) Weight Gain/ Diabetes:

Not to scare you, however, I have had an extreme personal experience with both in my life through my deceased mother. She continued to consume monster quantities of diet sodas( Diet Pepsi/ Pepsi-Free were her faves ) even after she was diagnosed with diabetes at the tender age of 33. Her weight at the time of diagnoses was 180 lbs.

She thought she was consuming less sugar than what was in regular " leaded " sodas( whatta horrid deception ). It wasn't until she experienced a stroke 4 days before her 44th birthday and yet another 4 days after her 45th birthday that she FINALLY got the clue that giving up her diet sodas was, in fact, a good idea. Of course, the damage was already done as the second stroke nearly killed her and was instrumental in the loss of her right leg below the knee as a direct result.

Prior to her death nearly 10 years ago at the age of 50, she was blind and couldn't get around much without a hospice nurse to assist her with the activities we take for granted as healthy adults as my father cried himself to sleep every evening watching his wife wither helplessly in a wheelchair( OUCH!!! ).

This may not be the answer to which you may desire to your question. Yet, being a former consumer of sodas myself, after watching my mother wither into an invalid as a result of her bad choices while believing the media spin of sodas, I no longer consume them. I, personally, consume healthful drinks such as 100% fruit juices and soymilk in place of sodas. The soymilk alone will produce enough flatulence to power a city of 500,000.

Hope this helps facilitate your decisions either way.

Take care:)

Absolutely. And the sugar substitute in diet sodas can make it worse (also, diet sodas sometimes are more heavily carbonated.)

The carbonation in soda is air - flatulence is air.
