Urge to smoke..?!

Question: I started smoking cigarettes in my early teens, but quit within the first few months of starting. Now, 5 years later I keep getting these urges to smoke. Like I can taste it or something.. Besides stuffing my face, what can i do to avoid lighting up?

First, do NOT try meds. It has been 5 years since you quit, you are well beyond that point and starting on a nicotine gum, med or patch will only make your problem worse. You are absolutely right not to stuff your face. Try exercise-that is always best. I quit 7 years ago and still crave the dang things. I run up a flight of stairs. If I am at work I take off my heels and run as fast as I can up the nearest flight, and if that doesn't work I run them again. If I am at home I roll down the hill in my back yard, rain, snow or humidity, like a crazy kid and then hull my butt up it as fast as I can. Find a distraction that involves physical exertion-I promise THIS will work. Hang in there.

i know what it feels like, ive only ever smoked one ciggerette and even know i feel like a smoke everyday.

Try the new medication that is currently out. It's called CHANTIX. I have been on it for about 2 months now, and I lost all my craving for nicotine. What it does is block your nicotine inhibitors as opposed to giving you a shot of nicotine like the patch and the gum. You might feel like the habit itself (times and with whom) presents itself, but the want of the nicotine is gone. Good Luck! I hope this helps.

You could try the gum or the patches they make... Ive never tried them tho so i couldnt tell you. Just fight through it tho, itll pass sooner or later

i heard you can suck in and now of a straw and chew on it. i heard it takes away the sensation to smoke cause its like ur smoking but ur not really. sucks u even started in the first place, mistake

*Chew Gum
* Drink lots of water
* Exercise
*Go for a walk
* Call a friend
*watch TV
*take a shower or bath

Just think of something else, I smoke and am getting ready to quit , I have friends who quit 10 years ago and still have the urge and they just chew some gum and think of something else for a few minutes for a distraction and the urge gos away or so they tell me.
