Is Diet Coke safe?!

Question: I just went down to the shops and bought 30 cans of Diet Coke.

I'm trying to lose weight, so I'm on a diet. I guess I want to make it easier on myself so I'm not tempted to overeat or drink calorie rich drinks. I don't plan on drinking Diet Coke heavily for the rest of my life, just until I get down to a weight I'm happy with, then I can start eating normally and go back to drinking normal soft drink and I guess diet soft drink moderately.

I heard that artificial sweeteners can cause health problems in high doses to male rats, and that the FDA thinks for it to be dangerous to humans, you would have to drink a large amount, like more than 240 litres.

If it is indeed not harmful to humans at all - under this ridiculous amount that no one is going to drink - then I can only think it is a great supplementation to trying to lose weight. The water and caffeine in Diet Coke could only be of benefit.

Aspartame and sucralose (Splenda) are really not good for you. The safety of these sweeteners is based on research funded by companies cashing in on the low calorie craze. They allege that these chemicals are not absorbed by the body, but that is only in the majority of people- some will absorb it more than others. Some studies of artificial sweeteners have shown people actually gain weight on the stuff- possibly because the feel they can have more or indulge in other areas. If you really want to loose weight, skip the artificial crap and the caffeine and just drink water.

it might have no sugar but it has to have so much chemical so it could taste good
i dont prefer it..
orange juice is better or if you want something else i would recommend you to have lemonade sodas because it dosent have as much colour and chemical!!!

its virtually pointless to a diet might as well drink regualr coca cola in moderation .. but not harmful. and going back to your origional diet after achieving your weight is not the way to keep it off, hardcore dieting then returning to normal diet will make all your work pointless youll gain it back you need to slowly introduce foods from your normal diet back into your habits.

If you don't mind digesting embalming fluid, yeah it's safe. I prefer to drink Diet Rite. It's way better than the other "diet" sodas.
