A cold is caused by the Rhino virus. Rhino meaning nose. It's a virus in your nose/nasal cavity. The snot is the result of the virus and your body's attempt to get rid of it.
The Rhino virus cannot live in a moist environment. Try snorting saline mist into your nasal cavity several times a day. Breathe deeply so it gets all the way in. It will cause you to blow your nose more, but will shorten the length of your cold. Also, gargle with warm salt water if you have a sore throat along with the nose stuff. The soreness of your throat, assuming your don't have anything else going on, is caused by your nose dripping down your throat. Saline, salt water, it's all the same. Won't hurt your and is not addictive. Cheap, too!

I hear you.... I don't have a clue but it is nasty, Yeah you don't have a runny nose until you catch a cold, so Things that make you go HMMM? I will be checking back in on this question...

i don't know why this happens but it is horrid, at the moment i have a cold and i am walking round the house with tissue's in every pocket and up my sleeves.
