Can a Dr refuse medical treatment to a patient.?!

Question: My brother went to the dr today and the Dr said to him "I wont help you because you are going to be a waste of my time" He saw him in the hospital but the doctor requested to see him in his private office for cash money. My brother has medicaid and the doctor wouldnt see him because medicaid wont pay him alot for the type of surgery he needs. I dont understand i thought the medical field is for helping people. Can someone please tell me if this doctor was right or am i wrong.

There are always two sides to a story. A physician is there to help people that want help. If your brother is not willing to do his part to help with his medical aliments then a doctor can refuse to treat. This normally forces the pt to see a different doctor, which is what is best for both parties.
If your brother is dieing in his office, he must stabilize him and give him proper medical care or he will get into a lot of trouble.
I don't know what is wrong with your brother, but perhaps he isn't willing to change his ways to better his health.

I am sure there is more to it than that. Go to a different doc

Unfortunately, yes, doctors can choose what insurance or payments they will accept, sometimes it is the medical group that makes the decisions.
