Being a first responder?!

Question: My husband is going to take a class at work to be a first responder there in case of emergency, as long as he wears the proper equipment such as gloves, etc. should he be okay? What happens if he gets a disease does that mean we cant have kids?

They will be drilled with personal protection attire. I work in the operating room and when we went though school they drilled that in us. Even when I update my CPR and ACLS they teach it in those classes to. Tell him just to use common sense.

Make sure if he is CPR or ACLS trained he carries the one way valve mask like we have. This way no one can breathe in his mouth or vomit (it happens). Gloves are important, eye wear, so on. Common sense will save him from anything, and of course the teaching he will get in the courses. They are very very adamant about teaching personal safety.

they will learn proper saftey percautions and he should be fine

1st Let me say hats off to your husband for becomeing a First Responder. The first thing he will have drilled into his head is BSI. Boby Substance Isolation. This includes gloves, masks, gowns, and protective eyewear. Next he will learn Scene Safety. This includes what to look for when dealing with emergenies. When responding to any emergeny ,the safety of the recusior allways comes first. As to will your husband be protected from disease ? If he follows the rules of EMS he will. I have been a EMT working for a Ambulance Service for 10 years and my job,I feel is safer than eating at McDonalds
It's all in the training.
