If you practice meditation, do you repeat a mantra and/or focus on anything in p!

Question: Talk to me.

Answers: Talk to me.

mantra are of 3 kinds ideative, encantative and pulsative ,ideative mantra using your imagination ,encantative means you sing the mantra chant, pulsative is with breathing .pls visit my blog http://www.freewebs.com/magbasa learn about the origin of meditation.

I used to use the "Chapter of the Unity" from the Qu'ran: "Qol: Hua Allahu achad; Allahu Assamad; lam yalid walam yulad; walam yakun lahu kufwan achad." While practicing meditation along Hindu lines, as an atheist!

I chose that mantra because of its fluidity. It was fairly simple to "get it going" and keep it going. I've used several others as well, but I had the most success with that one.

I never used a mandala or anything like that; but I would perform meditations in which I would imagine simple shapes and try to "hold" them for as long as possible - which is MUCH more difficult than it sounds.

I focus on something and let my mind wonder from there. Try "Seeing yourself as you really are" by the Dalai Lama, or a book by Thich Nhat Hanh for some ideas on what to think about during meditation.

When I meditate, I just use the Ujjayi breathing technique, which I first learned practicing Iyengar style Hatha yoga.

I just started meditating regularly a few months ago, and only sit for 30 to 40 minutes, so I'm pretty much a beginner...

Hi,
Yes, using a mantra or focus point can be very helpful in meditation. Mantra meditation can be very powerful. It keeps you in the "gap" that space in between thoughts. That's where you truly touch your inner spirit. See Dr. Wayne Dyer's book Getting in the Gap it comes with a CD of guided meditations it's a really good starting point. Hope this was helpful : )

Hi Suzi. I don't meditate in the sense that you mean, however, my head is like a computer. I sit in my own thinking room that no on has entry to and I sit looking out at the ocean, I concentrate on the one particular subject and my mind start evaluating the problem I have, giving me alternative options on how to deal with it, then I move onto the next one, I come out of my room knowing what needs to be done. and I don't deviate. as I trust what my mind has un-rambled.
