Is there something that my Dr. can do to help my eating disorder?!

Question: I don't have a typical eating disorder. I do not starve or throw up or even exercise like a psycho. However, I am ABSOLUTELY addicted to food. It consumes my mind. I can't wait for the next meal and I over eat. Is there something that my Dr. can do? I have pumped thousands of dollars into LA Weight loss and I understand how to eat healthy, but it's like an addiction. I started going to Overeaters Annonymous but I STILL have this problem. Do you think going to my regular Dr could help? I am already on Prozac for depression and I heard that it is supposed to help people with bulimia, however, it's not helping me in the over eating area. I'm stumped. Help?

This is a really tough question, and a lot of people wish they knew the answer to it, including drug companies and medical doctors.
Overeating is an addiction, just like drugs, alcohol and even computer pornography and gambling. There may in fact be similar causes, or genetics, for all of them.
It's very likely your brain can't hear the signal that your stomach is full - that makes you hungry all the time. Or that your brain can't hear when there is enough protein and fat (food) in your bloodstream, like a diabetic who keeps wanting more sugar even though the arteries are clogged with it.
It's easy to say, eat less - exercise more (and that is true!) but it's like telling a gambler to stop gambling or a drinker to just stop drinking. There are very deep seated reasons the person can't stop - but nobody knows what they are!!!
The best approach is probably a little bit of everything, and if you are extremely obese, maybe even consider a stomach reduction surgery eventually.
Good luck and God bless.
PS: Do you exercise? That's the best way to stay fit while eating whatever you want, and will actually decrease your appetite and provide a different stimulus to your brain than food.

Have you ever considered taking up a hobby that will distract you from food? Something that will require your attention and keep your hands busy. Needle point, crocheting or knitting, all require attention to detail.

there are medications to make you not hungry. they do exist, you just have to find a doctor that knows about them

a lot of these medications are still in test trials
