My 6 year old daughter is having her tonsils removed?!

Question: can anyone give me a little insight as to what to expect while she's in the hospital, afterwards, pain.. what to eat.. and all that? I had mine removed when I was little, but things are a lot different now. thanks for your help!

She will be a little groggy afterward. Don't give her alot of liquids right away, it will make her very nauseated. Keep something handy for her to vomit in, just in case. (vomiting is a common problem because of anesthesia).Give clear fluids for at least 24 hours and make sure she recieves her prescribed pain medication on schedule. Give her lots of rest/love/attention. She will feel kinda crappy for about 2 days. Take something to the hospital to keep yourself busy.

soup is good to eat for someone that is in that condition

Pleny of soft foods, not too warm or cold. My daughter had hers taken oout when she was 3. Make sure to check the Dr. recommendation for what to use for pain, and buy it ahead of time you will need it. Good luck to your daughter

Ice cream and Popsicles will calm the back of the throat, and make her happy. It will last just a few days the discomfort, she may get a fever, talk with your doctor about after surgery happenings.
