If you take a COLD shower, is it as effective with killing germs as HOT showers?!

Question: I hate it when I shower, & the water turns COLD on me. It makes me feel dirty, even if I take 2 showers back-to-back.

I would think so. There's no way we could stand water hot enough that would kill the germs on us. It would be around boiling in order to do that. The hot shower might make the soap run a little smoother, but really you are just washing the germs off in either case so you should be fine in either temp.

Shower temperature has absolutely nothing to do with killing germs whatsoever. The germs can easily survive the extremes of cold and hot that your body tolerates. What does get rid of the germs, then? Soap. This "dirty feeling" after your cold showers is all in your head, my friend.

I wouldnt think a cold shower will help with the germs!! only becuz when one is sick, a hot shower kind of boils the germs off ya when ya take a hot shower. Just like

as long as you use soap it doesn't matter if the water is hot or cold.

I used to feel the same way. I could not take a cold shower cause I felt like I was not getting clean. Also, I can not let the shower curtain touch me...gives me the heevie jeevies....I think that it is all in your head though. Soap is what helps to get rid of all the germs and dirt and stuff. In actuality cold water rinses better and is healthier for your skin and hair. Not freezing cold though, just a bit cooler than lukewarm water. Also, if you take less HOT showers and more lukewarm ones you will feel more revived and your shower itself has less bacteria.

I don't know why mdyh got all the thumbs down. It's absolutely correct that your skin cannot tolerate the temperature needed to kill germs. Germs are removed in two main ways: by the mechanical action of washing with soap and by the antibacterial action of that soap.

Even with a total body surgical scrub, you will never remove all the germs from your skin.

As everyone says, the temp doesn't matter, but I am with you. I don't feel clean with a cooler or cold shower. I don't feel rinsed off well either unless I have real warm water.
