Does saliva have ANY nutritional value?!

Question: If we swallow saliva, are we receiving any nutritional value? Does it HURT us? I know some people feel nauseous if they swallow too much saliva. But could it be a good thing? Does it do absolutely nothing, or even a little bit of good/bad?

While it has no nutritional value, saliva is the extremely important first phase of digestion. It is why it is recommended to chew each bite 32 times (which is really only meant to imply that you chew thoroughly). Saliva is the primary lubricant for swallowing and it begins breaking down the food for processing by the stomach and intestines.

probably no real nutritional value, likely not bad for you either

no

Saliva has enzymes that help start the digestive process so we do need it.

Seeing it is made by our own body it is irrelevant whether it has any nutritional value ( I doubt very much that it does) unless you are planning on consuming someone elses.
