How can I fix my sleeping pattern?!

Question: i've now gotten into the habit of not being able to sleep until very late or very early? it is now 5:07AM yes i know it's crazy right, i don't think anyone else could have a worse sleeping pattern than mine. that past week ive been going to sleep really late and like waking up at like 2 in the afternoon! how can i fix my sleeping pattern? all i can think of is just staying up all night one day and then try to sleep at a regular time

Ok its good that you can see that your sleep pattern or body clock is not right>>>>>i have suffered from insomnia for years so understand where you are coming from..you do NOT sound crazy or weird or anything like that ok!!!
However you are an inteligant person to see that what you and your body isa doing is not good for you at the end of the day thats a really good thing ok!!
Things to avoid>>>>>>>a list coming here ok
caffienine(coffee, tea and hot chocolate(i know the last one sucks)
cigarettes*(i hope you dont smoke but i dont know)
alcohol(again hope you dont drink but if you do alcohol only gives you a false sleep not a proper one)
Avoid anything that stimutlates your mine like exercise.
Avoid eating huge amount b4 bed time.
Make your bed only for sleeping----no tv reading ect
If this doesnt work for you you need to personalize it to suit your needs
make a bed time for you..but at the same time if you can not sleep try not to stress about it.....just rest instead..pretentd to sleep beleieve me it works.
If you train yourself enough you may very well be able to tell youself to go to sleep!!Thats what i ahev to do some times.
Basically what i am saying is try not top take stimulates b4 bed time and make your body listen to what your mind is saying..
Perhaps you need a different sleeping possition if i cant sleep i have no pillow and i have a tv on and tell me self i need to relax and i need to go to sleep.
it takes time and practise so use this time and good luck
If things dont improve for you perhaps see a doctor...i am not promoting sleep meds but they are there because some ppl need the good luck again if you need to chat feel free to contact me via nickname!!

same problem with me :( .. I am up too right now .. College starts next week .. I am just worried .. :(

well its 5:13 a.m now....and my alarm is set for 630 am for school. but i knew at four a.m i wasnt going to be able to sleep. the only way to break this pattern is set your alarm for like nine a.m and stay awake and dont take any naps. you will be ready for bed come nighttime and that should get you into the swing of things. hope i helped. I KNOW its frustrating!!!

Stay up all night, or force yourself to take 1 or 2 hour naps during the day until you shift your cycle around.

drink milk.that's what i'm doing.

or try to sleep at tenam and alarm yourself at 7am.:D

Ditto>going on three (3) years now. It's a serious problem!

set your alarm clock reallly loud or have someone wake you up. FORCE yourself up. dont go back to sleep (the first and second days are the hardest). by night time you will be tired. set alarm clock for desired time, and you may have to force yourself up but after a few days it will become easier. If you have school try doing it on weekends so you don't fall asleep in class :-P

Have you thought about creating a sleep table? You note down what time you went to sleep, and set a target time, i.e 11pm or midnight. I am exactly the same as you, but after setting up a sleep table, and having a nice, milky drink like hot chocolate or Horlicks, you'll be right as rain =] Also, don't watch Tv too late before you're about to go to sleep. It over-stimulates you brain, making it work when you're trying to go to sleep. Try doing a Sudoku puzzle or reading a book.

yep, you should just stay up all day long, and then by the time say 10pm rolls around you'll be very very tired, and you should start to get sleepy around that time. it kinda worked for me, but now I'm out of school and have a second shift job, so i stay up all night anyway. is your sleep pattern affecting you negatively? personally i think if your happy with it, then there is no need to change.

I completely understand...it is 4 a.m here right now and I am wide awake. Went to sleep this afternoon, thinking I would get up around 7 and watch tv, but didn't wake up until midnight. So, you are not alone......I really don't have an answer to it.....I've tried staying up all night too before....and I also use sleep aids for when I cannot get to sleep at night....but they can backfire on you.....like this! I guess a gradual change would be a good way to get back on track.

Try going to the sleep doctor he might solve your problem,or try going to bed really early like 7pm.
Hope it works out alright.

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!
i have the same stupid problem i think about things way to much at night i have tried everything nothing works i just deal with it.
NOTHING CAN HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...

I wouldn't recommend staying up all night... you'll end up crashing in a day or two and feel tired for the next few days.

Several things you can try.... exercise or get out more during the day so you'll feel tired at night, or you can get back on schedule by getting a job and or going back to school/ taking classes during normal daytime hours. Good luck (I'm going to sleep now.)

i have a really bad sleeping patten i stay awake all night and go to bed at about five in the afternoon almost every other day and other days i go to bed at seven in the morning and don't wake up till midnight so i'm usually on my own all the time staying awake all night used to work at first but it doesn't work for me anymore when i went to bed at about seven i didn't wake up till two in the afternoon but i sleep like a log and no onw can wake me up till i've sleeped enough so it might work for you also try not to focus on sleeping to much just try to relax thats all i can suggest i sometimes listen to classical music it puts me right to sleep hope this helped
