Question: I have a phobia of vomiting, even nausea worries me. I was wondering if there's any kind of operation or anything to remove whatever makes you sick/feel sick?

Because you have a phobia, it is only possible to control it with the aid of a psychiatrist. Notice I said psychiatrist, not psychologist; there is a difference. A psychiatrist will be able to aid you through therapy and, if necessary, medical treatments for your illness. A psychologist is simply a person who listens and tries to aid you to change your mindset.

Your psychiatrist may suggest treatment modalities such as different therapies, medications, and possibly even surgical treatments, but the whole process MUST start with a psychiatrist.

Nope - Maybe you should work on getting over your fear...

nope -counseling will do wonders for you. ask your doctor for a referral.

Yes. You can have a gastrectomy. It will then be almost impossible for you to be sick.

i don't think so. why are you so afraid? certainly nausea shouldn't be something you deal with regularly and if you do you should go to your family dr. But there isn't something they can remove via surgery.

i dont know about surgery but maybe getting hypnotized it works for some people

Talk to your doctor!!!!!

NO, I would be more afraid of surgery than vomiting.

not that i know of

you probably have alot of acid in you. And i dont think theres a operation. mostly done by taking pills =D. But you should go to your doctor and ask how to fix the problem.

the drug phenergan relieves nausea and prevents vomiting

No, but you can work on getting over phobias. I had a phobia of spiders until my brother got a tarantula and made me hold him for 5 minutes. The whole time I told myself this isn't so bad this isn't so bad over and over again. Eventually I conquered my fear and now they don't bother me!

Good news - there is treatment but not operation - With a success rate close to 100% we work with our Phobia Of Vomiting clients for as long as it takes to overcome the phobia.

Permanently.

you need to visit a Gastroenterologist,
Perhaps you have GERD, or esopogeal problems. There are many medications to help this.
Don't let it go as could worsen & then may need surgery.

there's no operation.
Feeling sick is a protection mechanism for your body.
BUT there are treatments available to help you overcome the fear aspect of being sick.
EFT for example.
Check out this link.

Don't be daft!! The reason people are sick is because then if they eat something that is poisonous, they will get it out of their system. The body is a very clever thing you know, so stop being silly. I couldn't stop being sick with nerves when my husband died last year. It wasn't very pleasant but it was hardly as bad as the cancer he died of. Put things into perspective and just stop thinking about it as there are worse things than being sick.

Im Not very sure go ask your doctor x

EXPOSURE!

Well there is such a thing, and it is psychological, the only way to get an operation to remove it is lobotomy, which is basically removing your brain for all practical purposes.

If you are too much of a wimp to overcome your fear on your own, you should know that this is an actual existent phobia and treated in various clinics. For example:

Or you might try consulting with your nearest clinic.

You probably need to see a therapist about the phobia, as opposed to trying to remove some physical part of your body. Phobias are mental, and can be treated.

Is the nausea from swollen tonsils or glands? Do you have acid reflux disease? If not then I believe that you should find the best treatment that works to stop your anxiety, aroma therapy, soothing music, meditation or prayer and a relaxing activity to get your mind off your stomach.
I enjoy reading or listening to contemporary christian music while I do household chores.

Get pregnant. After vommiting every day, all day, for months, it will just become part of your routine. That's how I got over my fear.

Seriously though, what sucks about this fear, is that when you're already nauseas, the anxiety you get from worrying about throwing up makes the nauseas worse. Just tell yourself you're going to be fine afterwards (and feel much better.) It's like you're afraid to give away that control, but you just have to let your body run the show, and do what it needs to do. It's a mental thing. Just drink some Pedialyte or Gatorade afterwards to keep hydrated and stop a cycle.
