Can someone with Medical training/expertise give me some clarification on blood !

Question: I have not been feeling very well for a while now and when I finally went to the doctor they did a blood test. The results came back and they put me on some antibiotics for a while and then made me come back for another test. This time they said that my PCV (or cvp, I'm not sure) has dropped a little but it was still too high. My doctor is having me back in today to check me out and "decide what to do next". What are they looking for here?

Hello. I think you may have misheard. CVP means central venous pressure but cannot be established by a blood test. Could your GP have said MCV or PLT? MCV is corpuscular volume which helps diagnose anaemia, and PLT is platelet count. Platelets help the blood to clot when you bleed. To put your mind at rest why don't you phone the surgery and ask what exactly was said? That way you won't worry on about something that is probably nothing at all. If your GP was at all concerned he/she would have sent you straight to hospital.Hope this helps you and good luck.

could it be CBC? that is a complete blood count. It will test your blood for all kinds of problems, anemia, cholesterol, vitamin deficiency...

You can either ask your doctor's office to clarify which blood tests were elevated and what they are looking for, or you could go by the lab and ask for a copy of your results and then Google the particular labs that are elevated. Good Luck to you and be sure to utilize your right to know your numbers.
