Hi, this one is right up my alley. Yes meditation can help calm the nerves, it can also lead to other incredible experiences, beyond anything you could get in the physical/outter world. I can email you the instructions for a simple breathe meditation if you like (I run a once a week meditation class). Just be careful because there are a lot of misinformation about meditation. It's NOT about stopping thoughts (at first), it IS about focusing the mind and observing thoughts drifting through without becoming attached to those thoughts. Let me know if you want me to email you instructions, or you can ask any other questions if you like. Yours sincerely Steven T

Meditation is really hard and if you aren't ready to be committed to learning something than don't even bother. You can't learn to do it one day. It takes lots and lots of practice before you get good enough at it for it to be effective. I have been meditating for about a year now, and I haven't matered it yet. Basically, it's a state of incredible awareness while not thinking. You have to learn how to control your breathing. This entails breathing in through your nose slowly and deeply, and exhaling through your mouth. try inhale for a full 10 seconds, then exhale for a full10 seconds. You have to be very aware of your body placement. Truthfully you can meditate in any position, but the lotus position (legs crossed, palms face up) is the best because it is somewhat uncomfortable, so it forces you to be concious about your body. Focus purley on your breathing at first and nothing else. They way your entire body feels as you inhale, and how different it feels when you exhale. Make sure you are in a quiet room COMPLETELY free of distraction... no music, no tv etc. Continue to focus on your breathing. Pretty soon, you will start having thoughts. "My foot itches... I wonder if my black pants are clean... why didn't so and so call me today..." These thoughts that come are inevitable. The point of meditation is to let go of these thoughts. Acknowledge them, know they are there, but don't go into thought about them. This is a really difficult thing to do... it takes lots of training and dedication to actually be able to do this. See why it's hard? And I've just barely scratched the surface. There's a really great Buddhist author who has written dozens of books about meditation. His name is Thich Naht Hanh. You should definately look into to reading some of his material. He writes thing very well, and he's easy to understand. Good luck meditating!
