Infection..?!

Question: 2 or so weeks ago I was walking down the patio stairs and snagged the back of my heel on a nail. It scabbed over pretty fast, but it doesn't look good. It looks like almost mole like. It's kinda a dark red. I think it might be infected..If so, what should i do?

It sounds like a blood blister has formed on it. I would leave it alone for a while. By all means do not pick it. Put some neosporin on it in case of infection but a blood blister will usually go away on its own. It may take some time to do so but don't pick at it. Sometimes the blood blister will burst, if it does just put neosporin and a band-aid on it until it heals. If it gets worse you may have to see a Dr.

Go to a doctor and get it checked out

Does the whole area hurt (not just the wound, but all around it)?
Is it red/inflamed?
Does it pus or ooze any fluid?
Is the area around the wound a slightly higher temp than the surrounding flesh (an infrared thermometer is best for this)?

Any/all of these are signs of infection. If it is infected you could try to treat it yourself with hydrogen peroxide and hot compresses several times a day, but seeing a Dr. is best. They will probably give some antibiotics and maybe ointment. I don't have insurance either and I know hoe much it stinks.

Does it hurt around the spot where you cut it ? Is it red around it as well? If not its probably not an infection but some blood pooled up. If it hurts to walk on it then insurance or not you need to go to the Dr. and get some antibiotics , but if you don't keep a close eye on it because you don't want this to progress any further.

Good Luck
