I'm always sick, and the doctors never seem to care?!

Question: Physically, I'm always tired, and I have major lung issues (doctor didn't catch my pnumonia in time, i'm paying for it years later) I also have juvinille diabetes.

The doctors never seem to stop and ask themselves "hey, why is the same girl coming in here 1-2 times a month?" They keep handing me antiboitics and sending me out the door.

What can I do to make my doctors care? And what can I do to keep myself healthy. I have a beautiful man in my life who i love more than anything and I feel bad for him having to deal with a constanly sick girlfriend.

Juvenile diabetes is the worst, it's a vicious disease. I would find a different doctor, one who specializes in care for patients with diabetes. My dad is a severe diabetic, and I have been told that repeated antibiotics are the WORST thing for a diabetic. You are more prone to infection as it is, and over a period of time the body becomes immune to an antibiotic and then you have to be put on a stronger antibiotic when that happens. What happens when you are hospitalized one day and you have such an antibiotic resistance that nothing will work to kill the staff infection you have contracted while there? I'm not trying to scare you, but it concerns me too that this doctor just keeps giving antibiotics without knowing why he is giving them to you. Best wishes, and good luck!

p.s. I won't even go into the importance of diet, insulin, weight, etc.; as an adult juvenile diabetic yourself, it would be preaching to the choir, you've been dealing with this for the majority of your life, you KNOW all of that!

What are your eating habits? Excercise? Are you keeping your glucose controlled? Do you have allergies and how do you manage them?

Also see a different doctor.

Go to a different doctor. The diabetes will make you tired. You need to follow a strict diet and you need to educate yourself on diabetes. There is plenty of info on the web.

The best thing to do is to take control of your own health so you don't need to rely on the doctors as much. You are probably the most qualified person to figure out why you end up in the docs office so often. You can make the doctors aware of your concerns and ideas, and help them focus on things that are most likely to be effective. If you take a passive role with the doctors, you are less likely to receive the proper treatment.

So, learn as much as you can about the problems you have, steer the docs in the right direction, and make your lifestyle as healthy as possible by eating a good diet and getting regular exercise.
