Well, they are hot for one thing....but I think what you may be feeling is sometimes, depending on what you ate and how certain bacteria are breaking things in your intestines down, there's a slight acidic composition to the gas which is "burning" the sensitive mucous membrane around the anus...the smelly ones tend to have a higher sulfer content which could mean more "burn".
