Is abdominal atrophy possible?!

Question: I've heard of people developing abdominal atrophy after weeks/months of lowered physical activity. Is this possible? If so how do you know if it's just atrophy or if it's something major? How would one go about (safely) regaining muscle strength? Just wanting to know more about this specific condition, thank you in advance for your answers.

The abdominals are muscles so atrophy is possible. You may want to have it checked out to make sure it is not something major. Most people have pretty weak abdominal muscles which is why lower back pain is so common. I would think some low impact crunches (like on the stability ball) would help. Exercise videos always say to consult a physician before starting a new program. I assume it could be for that very reason, to make sure there is not a condition that the workout would cause to become worse.

There are several sites other than this one so you may want to go further.
