Why do I occasionally have uncontrollable nose bleeds?!

Question: My nose would bleed non stop for 5-10 mins and then suddenly stops bleeding. I usually tilt my head forward in the bathroom and just let it bleeds for the 5-10 mins. It has been like that since I was a teenager. I'm now over 30 and my nose still bleeds like that on occasion once every 2 to 3 months maybe. Why is that?

It could be a lot of things. Could be food you are allergic to, weather changes, thin blood vessels inside the nose, stress, nasal allergy, etc etc. Perhaps an ENT doc could help you to pinpoint your problem. Good luck :)

You could just be sensitive to the cold weather, and dry air..my ex used to get them b/c of the weather

Weak blood vessel in the nose, get your doctor to take a look.

maye cause the dry weather...try getting a humidifier..i think that is how it is spelled :)

Do you drink water? I know its a silly question
but most nose bleeds are because you are dehydrated.

Drink more fluids.

Hope this helps.

i have a cousin who had the same problem. my advise is to go see a doctor. it may have something to do about leukemia. i hope everything is okay!

You probably have really dry sinuses. I would look into using a nasal spray to moisturize. Or maybe you just have thin membrane in your sinuses.

Have you ever asked a dr?

Have you considered talking to a doctor? If it has lasted this long there is obviously something wrong.

Go to the hospital, get them to cauterize your nose with silver nitrate. It stings about as much as pulling nose hairs. Problem solved.

My boyfriend had that problem. He would be taking a shower or get out of bed and his nose would start to bleed. I would put a cold cloth on the back of his neck to constrict the blood vessels and finally his nose would stop bleeding. Anyhow he went to the Dr.'s and they burnt inside of his nose. What exactly I'm not sure I think it was some small blood vessels, but his nose does not bleed anymore.

Had that myself a few years back. But it was every couple of days. Every time it would bleed torrents. Ever had your nose broken? You may find that the septum is distorted and closing one nostril slightly causing increased airflow over the surface. Capillaries then multiply and are easily broken. Ended up getting mine cauterised. Twice. The next option was an operation to remove part of the septum and rebuild it. But been OK since the second cauterisation.

Go see an ENT specialist.

You may have High Blood Pressure or are you on any blood thinners?

My husband had Chronic High Blood Pressure and has this problem alot!

Besides high blood pressure and sinus problems it could also be due to weak blood vessels that can be strengthened with citrus bioflavonoids.

Cauterisation should only be a last resort and this involves heat sealing blood vessels by heat fusion with a local anaesthetic.
