Sometimes I wonder about the mental stability of people posting here. I really do.

I know exactly what you are going through and the people here answering obviously, do not. When my gorgeous niece came home with a dose of head lice from school, we were all quietly horrified, to say the least. I think we did quite well to contain how we felt, but in our own way we never really expected or were prepared for how much it was going to affect all of our lives.

The ONLY safe way to get rid of head lice permanently is to use a totally natural alternative to the chemical preparations then use prevention methods such as hairspray and tea tree mixed with water in a spray bottle every day to ensure they never return.

You are right to want to stay away from chemical head lice treatments. Before you listen to anyone advising you to use a pesticide treatment please consider the following:

No chemical head lice treatment is legally allowed to be labeled as 'safe' as every insecticide is a poison.

Lindane for example is a known carcinogen and is now banned in 52 different countries. Yet it is still used in more than 6 million prescriptions in the US. Google 'Jesse's Story Head Lice' for more. All lice killing pesticides are a poison and have the potential to cause serious damage, even if used as directed.

If a lice treatment does not work once it is not going to work twice, in fact the lice that live will breed into a whole new batch that are resistant to that chemical.

Read these articles and try to find a natural remedy containing Neem oil as this renders the lice unable to breed therefore making it impossible for them to build up a resistance.

Good luck, we've been there.

Shave her head, clean your house more thoroughly than you ever could have imagined by vacuuming and bleaching everything, washing clothes in boiling water, etc. That is horrible and lice is horrific. I have had a phobia since I was 11.

An alternative to shavin the lassies head there is special shampoo and conditionar and a comb too i believe you can aquire from your doctor. That's supposed to get rid of those radge little lice.

Cut off her head, soak it in warm water and shredded paper, then vacuum off the paper. The warm water attracts the lice, and also soaks into the shredded paper. When the shredded paper is sucked off, all the lice comes off with it. But then, you have the problam of lice in your vacuum.

buy lice shampoo and a fine tooth lice comb. wash her hair, then comb it. then vacuum your entire house to get rid of any eggs. or you could just get a lice removal kit at cvs. And in the summer, you can cover your head in veggie oil, tie a plastic bag aroud, and go outside. The heat suffacates them. Thats not guaranteed to work though. Tea tree oil also gets rid of lice, if you wash with it
