Doubt you'd die, but depending where you are in the world you might have problems speaking as it's used a lot in certain languages (not English generally). I think it produces those sounds you get a lot in Arabic which are very hard to repeat for us.
No. You will be just fine. Mine was cut off when my tonsils were taken out. The only problem that you will have is that you will not be able to scream that loud.
